Finance Minister says it is difficult to observe the 1998 budgetary deficit established with IMF
The Finance Minister Mircea Ciumara declared Thursday that one of the most difficult problems in the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will be to observe the deficit of the consolidated state budget which will represent 2.5% of the GDP in 1998, in comparison with 4.5% of the GDP in 1997.
"The Agricultural Bank and Bancorex make us problems with their public debts to such a degree that we didn’t anticipated at the beginning of the year. There are also other problems. I don’t know how we shall manage with the next year deficit", Ciumara said.
Observing a certain limit of the consolidated budget deficit represents one of the main performance criteria that Romania has to achieve in its relation with the International Monetary Fund.
