The representatives of the banks attending the annual session of the Romanian-German banking group discussed at the end of the last week about the means of supporting the small and medium enterprises.
Of all the seven points on the reunion’s agenda, the most important was the project for the development of the crediting activity for long and medium term (5-10 years) within Eximbank, a project realised with the assistance of the German special bank Kwf.
According to the program, this Eximbank developing project will become operational on January 1998, the crediting being made through the commercial banks, the BCR spokesman, Corneliu Cojocariu informed.
The representatives of the German banks mentioned that if the reform program initiated by the Government continues in an accelerated rhythm, Romania will need no more the guarantee of the German state for the import of equipment, granted through the Hermes insurance company, "as the German businessmen will come with their own capital."
The German banks’ representatives mentioned that there could be granted some extra crediting facilities along with the improvement of the general economic climate and of the Romanian banking system performances.
The annual meeting was held at the BCR headquarters and was attended by the representatives of the 8 German outstanding banks. Romania was represented by 13 banks.
