The democrats to deal with the Severin case

The existent disputes within the Democratic Party appeared immediately after the scandal of the spies provoked by Adrian Severin will be settled Friday at the National Council of the Democratic Party. The analysts consider there have appeared two camps within the party, one of them contesting Petre Roman’s main role in the PD policy. The Friday meeting is expected to decide whether Severin will be marginalized, or whether he will consolidate his position in the party.
The National Council of the Democratic Party (PD) is to designate Friday the executive leadership of this party and will analyse its actual state, as well as the activity of the PD ministers. As there has become obvious lately that there have been formed two camps within the party, many other conflicts are expected to come out.
Some democratic leaders are supporting Adrian Severin. He intends to make a series of proposals that would modernize the party.
On the other hand, there have begun to appear indirect critics against the PD leader Petre Roman. The Foreign Minister Adrian Severin, who is also the vice-president of the Democratic Party declared a month ago that the party must be renewed. When asked to give further details, he said that it is not compulsory that Petre Roman should run for the presidentials in 2000. The Foreign minister is supported by the Defense Minister Victor Babiuc, who had several times declared that the party should promote new persons starting from the top."
