 Constantinescu, Vosganian and Simirad

There are three conclusions to be drawn after the yesterday visit of President Constantinescu in Iasi:
1 In spite of the impression created by the press, the main objective of the presidential visit in Iasi was not to "re-assume the political will" regarding the promotion of the so called "program for Moldavia’s economic and social development." The president came directly from Hague, landing in Iasi on a rather dangerous weather for a president. Here, in Iasi he met with the President of the Moldovan Republic, Petru Lucinschi. We don’t know what the two presidents discussed. The inauguration of the RomTelecom office in Iasi and of the optic fiber junction between the two countries was an enough important pretext for such a summit.
But there was something more behind this that we don’t know yet. Anyway, the visit was a good opportunity for catching also "the second rabbit." This was offered by the senator of Iasi, Varujan Vosganian, the leader of Romania’s Alternative Party. The program for Moldavia’s economic and social development was elaborated at Vosganian’s only initiative. The visit in Iasi was a good opportunity for him to determine President Constantinescu declare his political support for this program.
2 Varujan Vosganian’s success was possible because of a situation revealed by Constantinescu’s visit. The power in Romania is gradually concentrating in the president’s hands and on his team. It is not by chance that Vosganian’s initiative was successful after the reshuffle, which confirmed the president’s direct implication in the Executive’s affairs in the disadvantage of the parties within the ruling coalition. And Varujan Vosganian’s party has no seat in the new government, although is a member of the Convention.
As regards the chances of promoting the program for Moldavia’s economic recovery, they entirely depend on President Constantinescu’s will. The citizens of Iasi can’t expect much from CDR or USD.
3 Emil Constantinescu’s visit in Iasi also revealed an important thing. Passing from the "Contract with Romania" to the "Contract with History", President Constantinescu has lesser time for things that we, the Moldavians complain of. And that’s the problem of the economic gap generating poverty and regional frustrations.
President Constantinescu could not help reproaching the Moldavians for not having voted him as the other regions did. The fight for Moldavia is between Mayor Simirad’s "political project" and Varujan Vosganian well administrated ambitions. And President Constantinescu proved to be a good "acquisition" for the latter.
