The pupils defeated the education minister

After a week of protests and five hours of negotiations on Monday with the pupils’ representatives, the Government gave way regarding the school leaving examination. The pupils who are to graduate this year will have examinations at only 4 subject matters within 5 exams as before.
The Ministry of Education had decided previously that the school leaving examination should be hold at 6 subject matters within 7 exams with 4 oral examinations being held on the same day.
The negotiations were between the Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea, the Education Minister Virgil Petrescu, the Reform Minister Ulm Spineanu, the Transport Minister Traian Basescu and 23 representatives of the pupils.
The school leaving curriculum will be not changed. The subjects will be unique in the whole country. Ciorbea declared that there is no question of dismissing the Education Minister Virgil Petrescu.
