 Waiting for Isarescu

The main slogan of this electoral campaign seems to be decency. No magnificent shows, no balloons, no expensive and sophisticated parties. Everyone is fed up with politics and politicians. The best solution seems to be represented by modesty.
The problem is that sometimes modesty seems to be very close to indifference. At least this is the image Isarescu has – the independent Premier of a government deeply involved in politics, who seems to tell us that we’re supposed to vote for him even if he doesn’t want that.
After some temporizations which can be justified up to a certain extent, Mugur Isarescu officially announced us that he would run for Romania’s presidency. And that was all. Why should we finally vote for him? We don’t know the answer to this question yet, because he will tell it to us later. The program, the electoral message, the slogan and all the other elements pertaining to the ideological arsenal of his candidature continue to stimulate our curiosity. Would this be a certain strategy or a piece of advice given by secret councellors? We do not know.
What is pretty sure is that this seemingly endless delay risks to turn into a boomerang. The candidate placed on the second position by all recent polls has begun to annoy his own supporters. If he doesn’t assume the role of a candidate determined to face a serious electoral competition, Mugur Isarescu might lose everything he has won so far through the "non-appearance" method. However interesting a certain candidate might be, there is a limit beyond which the electorate loses its patience. Moreover, the only party which supports Isarescu is undergoing a very deep crisis affecting its image and popularity. Be it simulated or not, the Premier’s indecision might favor this crisis.
During this decisive period, Isarescu has to give up this ambiguity game and to assume his political role. To say that one relies on the sociey’s support is nothing more than a pun. It is high time Romanians have realized whether they should vote for Mugur Isarescu or not. Even if everybody is fed up with politics, parties and politicians, we are all forced to go back to these things when our vote is at stake.
And nobody votes for prudes.
