 Iliescu appeals to his fans

The president of the Romanian Social Democracy Party (PDSR) Ion Iliescu declared Monday at a news conference that the opposition parties will join their efforts in order to determine the actual power to give up governing.
Iliescu announced that the Tuesday meeting organised by many opposition parties (PDSR, the Great Romania Party – PRM and the Pensioners’ Party) is only the beginning of the opposition’s ample joined actions for the organization of anticipated elections.
According to the PDSR leader, the reshuffle of the Ciorbea Cabinet would be not enough for "getting out of the crisis caused by the actual power." Iliescu also said that the ruling National Christian Democratic Peasant Party (PNTCD) might accept the idea of anticipated elections. He considers that PNTCD will have to bring the people to vote willingly, as the coming winter will determine "radical changes" of the surveys in favour of PDSR. Yet, lliescu was sceptical about the organization of an opposition alliance very soon. In his opinion, the opposition is only in a stage of probing and dialogues that will result in a joint action against the actual government.
Ion Iliescu also declared his support for the hunger striking revolutionists in front of the Senate. The PRM leader Corneliu Vadim Tudor had a more radical position in this respect threatening that Friday he will occupy the Senate Square with 10,000 people if the Government does not accept the revolutionists’ claims. The PRM leader demanded Monday in the Senate anticipated elections, stating that the situation will get soon out of the authorities’ control.
