 The Simirad Dilemma

Nine years after having become the head of the Iasi townhouse, Constantin Simirad continues to generate dilemmas. His public gestures give birth to all kinds of controversies; his surprises appear whenever we think that he has decided to "behave himself" for a certain period of time. In a very paradoxical way, his predictability is the one which puzzles us most. The fact that his answers are always full of common sense make us feel comfortable, but at the same time creates a kind of reflex. Everybody may say that he could predict his following answer.
And because of that very reflex, it is very easy to rely on this predictability again, in spite of the failure of having anticipated his reaction.
The illusion of his predictability lives on, while Simirad remains a great enigma. His political enemies could say the same thing about him – they will all end by admitting that Simirad is not to be deciphered.
So what? Who cares or should care about mayor Simirad? This is his last mandate, one might say. But this is not the first time that we could hear such a thing. It is in a way pretty difficult to say that this is his last mandate. At the same time, it is very difficult to say what is going to happen to him next. What will the future ex-mayor do? As far as we know, he cannot give an answer to this question. Simirad seems to be the kind of man who does never have a certain purpose in his mind. His logic of mathematician tells him that behind any result there is an algorithm, which can be reduced to a convention in our every day existence. And, as every convention, this one does not guarantee anything. The important thing is to design it.
Constantin Simirad is always busy designing algorithms, conventions and alternatives. This attitude helps him control the present and anticipate the future. This is how we could explain the quick way in which he gives up decisions, changes his opinions and even contradicts himself. Simirad’s force is represented by this extraordinary capacity of meticulously designing new alternatives and solutions which might help him get out of any
irreversible situation. This is why Simirad’s failures can be divided into two categories: failures of immediate calculation and destiny failures. The first ones are benign in general; as for the second category, we cannot say anything about it for the time being.
